For the Best School tour experience

We are based in Dungourney, near Midleton in East Cork. We have been providing School Tour trips around our farm for the last 20 years. A Leahys Farm School tour is educational, adventurous and seriously fun for school groups.

We provide fully guided tours and we offer the children hands on work with feeding the animals as well as interesting little stories about old machines and contraptions around the museums.

We have indoor and outdoor play areas, Climbing Frame, Adventure Trail and a Crazy Golf course, we also have a large maze, pedal go-karts, a huge selection of animals and lots more, we also have a large coffee shop where the group can sit and eat their packed lunch or we can provide a hot lunch.
There is a souvenir gift shop, if required by the school.
Experience a 100 year old dwelling house on a working farm and see the farm machinery operated at this time.

Historical and Educational Aspects

  • See the tradesmen tools, blacksmiths forge, carpenters workshop etc
  • Horse drawn machinery and the first means of public transport used in Ireland
  • See the Old Irish Crannog.

Involvement and Enjoyment

Children will help to feed a huge variety of animals i.e. Hens, Ducks, Alpaca etc

  • Play with the rabbits and mice.
  • Touch and maybe even hold the snake.
  • Our large maze is a real challenge to all the kids and teachers can try to find their way around too.
  • New to the farm this year, we have quad and barrel train rides for the kids, this is serious fun for all ages.

 

The prices per child are €10.50 and one adult with every ten children would be free, we offer complimentary tea and scones to all free adult in the group and your bus driver is also looked after in the same way.
For Pre Schools the prices are the same but there is one adult in every five children free.
The food prices are €5.50 per child (optional).

Price Freeze for 2023 and TY School Residential package “Ballyhass Bunkhouses”

We are committed to providing affordable educational experiences for schools, and will not be raising prices for our school tours for the 2023 season. 

We are excited to announce our new 2023 TY School Residential package “Ballyhass Bunkhouses”.

After over 20 years of experience in the outdoor industry with school groups, we have designed a new custom-built ‘Bunkhouse Village” specifically designed for your Schools’ residential trip. This will be an outdoor experience like no where else.

We do a selection of overnight packages.

  • 1.5 day & one night – €130
  • Two day & one night – €160
  • Three day & two night – €245

Our bunkhouses sleep 4-6 students and there are teacher pods/wheelchair accessible pods available. 

All meals are fully catered for (except lunch on day 1, Bring your own lunch). Now that we have accommodation on site it means they get more adventure activities with us which we are really excited about. 

Our Bunkhouses are pod-style camping bunk bed accommodations, (bring your own sleeping bags, pillows etc).

School Tours at Rumley’s Open Farm Cork offer a fun and educational environment for Irish school children.

It has been a dream of mine for many years to bring children onto my farm and give them a chance to see how food is produced from vegetables, eggs, chicken to the various different types of meat.

I strongly believe if you show children how real natural food is grown it is something that will stay with them forever.

With this philosophy in mind I have developed 3 programs that will appeal to both younger and older children where they not only get to play with the animals but to see how a working farm is run. It is also a program where teachers will learn a lot too and be able to bring some real experiences and exercises back to the class room.

Our 3 programs are as follows:

Day Plan – Junior Infants to 1st Class

ChildRabbit

  • Visit the Pet Farm where the children can get to hold and feed the animals
  • Guided Tractor Tour of the Farm tailored to younger children
  • See a cow being milked
  • Hold our day old chicks
  • Lunch
  • The Fun Bit – Access to all the indoor and outdoor activities available on the farm

Day Plan – 2nd to 4th Class

Schools

  • 2 hour Guided Farm Tour explaining how the farm works for domestic and exotic animals
  • The Working Farm The children will learn about where the food chain begins and ends.
  • Exercise A worksheet will be provided for use as a project back in the classroom
  • Lunch
  • Opportunity to play in our activity centre and meet the animals in our Pet Farm

How much does it cost?

Adventure Starts Here!

Zipit School Tours allow your group to Get active, get connected and get outdoors. This is a great opportunity for students to enjoy an exhilarating and challenging outdoor activity in a natural setting, building confidence, teamwork and self-esteem. Students will feel a great sense of achievement as they conquer each activity, pushing their comfort zones in a completely safe environment but with the perception of risk. Big challenges or baby steps, our energetic instructors will encourage and motivate even the most nervous student, creating a lasting sense of achievement.

We welcome primary school children from age 9 upwards and secondary students, with circuits to suit all ages and levels of fitness. Activities last for 4 hours. Safety is always paramount.

What better way to bond with your students, than participating alongside them and facing your fears too! Free participation and free tea and coffee for all teachers. However, we do ask that at least one teacher remains on the ground at all times, providing active supervision.

We can take 150+ students in any one day, by staggering start times. We have parallel initiation circuits to ensure a streamlined throughput so you can focus on enjoying your day out. To avoid queues and ensure an enjoyable time for all, we start approximately 45 students at one time, with the next group following one to two hours after. Please contact us for exact times, depending on size of group.

If you do have a very large group, the natural forest surrounds offers plenty of open space for games and trails through the forest. Coillte also offers orienteering. Log-on to Coillte.ie/activity/hiking for more details.

If you have children with special needs, please call us to discuss their needs. All children must be physically and mentally able to manage their own safety. SNA’s must supervise children under their care on a one to one basis.

Zipit Forest Adventures has secured a licence with Coillte (Irish Forestry Management Company) to exclusively develop this type of activity on Coillte owned land which covers about 445,000 hectares, about 7% of the land cover of Ireland.
