PRIMARY SCHOOLS

General Tour (Approx. time 30 mins)

The tour for Primary schools includes a brief history of Marsh’s and a look at the points of interest in the library as we move through the old reading room & the two galleries. Taking note of the portraits of famous figures from Marsh’s past, spotting the bullet holes that remain in books from the time of the Easter Rising, and then on to the cages where readers were locked in to stop them from stealing the books!

WHY NOT INCLUDE:

The LEGO® minifigures Hunt  (Add 15 mins)

Our exhibition ‘Hunting Stolen Books’ (May-Dec 2017) has been the stimulus for our LEGO® minifigures Book Thief Hunt which includes  12 historical minifigure characters from the library’s past.  This is a great introduction to the history of the library and to people such as Jonathan Swift, Bram Stoker, James Joyce, an Egyptian mummy, to name but a few!

Scary (and Hairy) Comic Images (Add 15 mins)

Our Scary (& Hairy) Tales from Marsh’s Library comic book publication, which tells of stories of a perhaps more macabre nature and may appeal to your students imagination, please see the link and online version of the comic here.

Educational Weeks

Every year we take part in Engineers Week (Feb/March), Maths Week (October) and Science Week (November). These prove to be very popular and schools return each year, so do look out for our events announcements via our own website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS

We are happy to make the wealth of first hand resources we have contained in the collections within Marsh’s Library accessible for course leaders, teachers and students. Our books and manuscripts have great potential in complimenting the learning taking place in school, particularly for the Junior and Leaving certificate year groups.  We welcome teachers and course leaders to make requests for topics to cater for their learning objectives.

This will include a guided tour of the library. We can collate digital images and extracts from our books and manuscripts focusing on a particular subject or topic to meet your curriculum needs.  We, for example, have a rich collection of texts relating to many topics in the history curriculum, including the following.  The Reformation, the Renaissance, Exploration and Discovery, and the Easter Rising.

The online catalogue might give you ideas.  Please feel free to contact us to arrange a special visit tailored to your requirements.

Evaluation

We always welcome feedback from your time in the library. If you could complete an evaluation form, all comments will be gratefully received.  This is to ensure we improve and refine our visitor experience.  Thank you.
