Viking Weaponry

Find out all about arms and armour in Ireland c. 795 – 1171.  A wide range of reproductions will be presented showing the equipment used in Viking Age Ireland including swords, shields, spears, bows, and axes, the skills and tactics of these shall also be discussed in detail. Finally, get a chance to see a range of domestic Viking goods including unique Irish Hiberno-Norse buckles, jewellery,  hack silver and Dublin coins die.

Happening from the 19th to the 22nd of April from 11am to 4pm.

Dress like a Viking

Come along and examine up close the clothing and trappings which Dubliners of the Viking Age would have worn.   A range of domestic Viking clothing including cloaks, tunics, hats and shoes will be presented alongside accessories including Hiberno Norse belts, brooches and bracelets.   There will also be Military items such as helmets and swords.  Find out how they all were produced and what materials were used, bring any of your Viking fashion questions and we will endeavor to answer!

Viking Coin Minting

Meet our Viking Coin Minter from Montague Heritage Services. Watch him demonstrate this special art of coin minting and listen as he shares his knowledge of Viking arts and crafts. You can find Olaf at the craft stall in our Viking Dublinia exhibition on your visit.

Viking Tablet Weaving

Come and see how Medieval spinning and Viking tablet weaving are done. See a Medieval Spinster at work using a drop spindle to turn fleece into yarn, one of the most basic skills necessary for traditional fabric making.  With tablet weaving, complicated braid making is explained and demonstrated with displays of intricate designs upon the loom and tablets.

The Big Dig

Dig for ancient Viking treasure at the Dublinia Big Dig

Put your hard hat on and get your hands dirty to experience life as an Archaeologist.

The Big Dig is all included in your entrance fee to Dublinia! So come and join the Big Dig in the grounds of Dublinia from the 24th to the 27th of April, where visitors will get to take part in our very own simulated archaeology excavation.

It promises to be a fun packed family event where children will get a chance to discover how archaeologists excavate and hopefully find some artefacts and treasures of their own.

Dig Times are at 10.30am/11.30am/12.30pm/2.30pm and 3.30pm.  No booking is necessary and entrance is part of the normal admission price.

Suitable for age 6 years+
