Our well-loved family friendly treasure hunt, Tricky Trail, is back for 2024. Enjoy a frightfully fun family day out and get ready to experience some spooky story telling, eccentric experiments, magical performances and more. There may even be a few frights in store…

Pick up your Tricky Trail map before you embark on a terrific treasure hunt. Collect every lost item along the way, prepare to meet an array of wildly interesting characters and take part in some spooky fun and games…

Find every hidden treasure as you go and there may even be a trick or treat waiting for you at the end of the trail 🎃

Take a Ride on the Fright Side with The Ghostbus

Step inside the world’s first and original Ghostbus and be transported into a world of ghostly happenings, comedy horror, and terrifying histories. The new Ghostbus will drive you into your nightmares, taking in some of Dublin’s most haunting sights along the way. Visit the Hellfire Clubroom and haunted museum downstairs, and play a hand of cards with the devil himself. Next take your seat upstairs in the Victorian Theatre with its blood red velvet curtains and begin a thrilling ride tracing Dublin’s creepiest mysteries. You will be led through this ordeal by a sinister guide and driver, two men in tune with the afterlife, who will do their best to put you at your unease.

Did you know that Dublin was home to one of horror fiction’s most famous names: Dracula author, Bram Stoker? Your creepy host will give you an unnerving insight into his origins as the tour creeps through Dublin’s darkened streets. At the College of Surgeons, a certain Dr. Clossey is still said to roam the corridors carrying a bucket of human entrails.

Having heard some twisted tales aboard the Ghostbus get ready for a lesson in grave robbing and bodysnatching in the grisly surroundings of the haunted graveyard. More grizzly dealings are unleashed at the 12th Century St. Audeon’s Church, where the ghost of Darky Kelly, the madame of Dublin’s notorious Maiden Tower is said to wander restlessly.  Designed to spook your imagination, the spine-tingling, nerve-racking DoDublin Ghostbus Tour will be a journey of hair-raising frights you will never forget.

His famous character Dracula, a notorious vampire, has somehow escaped from his book in our Storytelling Gallery and into the vaults of EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. Can you and your family help track him down and spell him back from whence he came?

  • Working with our guide, you and your family will locate clues hidden in our galleries to Dracula’s whereabouts.
  • Discover more about Bram Stoker’s life and the famous novel Dracula that shaped how the world imagines vampires today.
  • Stop off for a Storytelling session, where Bram will bring to life some tales of creatures from Irish history and folklore that may have inspired Bram’s creation.

The tour is led by a guide who plays the role of Bram Stoker and involves an activity hunt to find objects hidden in the museum, storytelling session and two interactive activities, one a spell casting and one an imagination game to come up with a new vampire story. Ghosts, Ghouls and “Goodie Glover Day”: The Irish Origins of Halloween

Join us as we leave daylight behind and explore the darker side of our mythologies and histories this Halloween at EPIC!

Halloween is fast approaching and it’s time to delve back in the origins of Irish traditions and explore how Samhain became Halloween. Irish ghost stories and funerary traditions travelled with the Irish diaspora and often became entangled with local customs to form entirely new traditions over the centuries.

Highlights

  • Learn about The Dullahan (“dark man”) a malevolent harbinger of death who served as the inspiration for the headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow.
  • Discover how the local practice of burying corpses with a stake through the heart influenced the writings of Irish emigrant Bram Stoker, author of Dracula.
  • Uncover the tragic story of ‘Goody Annie Glover’ the unfortunate Irish woman who became the last person hanged for witchcraft in Boston in 1688.
  • Learn how the influx of Irish immigrants, who brought their traditions and folktales, helped shape the story of jack-o’-lanterns in America.

This Halloween the Irish National Stud & Gardens will hold its annual Halloween Spooktacular!

We can’t let the Halloween holidays go unnoticed! From Saturday the 23rd until Sunday the 31st of October come and help us celebrate this spooky time of year!!

Each day join us for spooky crafts, trick or treat magic shows, scary storytelling and much more! Hopefully our horses won’t be too afraid of your little ones however, as we invite them to dress in their scariest outfits!!!

Finally, all ages can explore our spooky tunnel experience. Travel in the darkness and try not to get too scared!!

All the regular attractions are still available including an opportunity to meet the Living Legends team, join our guided tours, take the fairy trail route or travel along our stepping stones in the Japanese Gardens for hours of outdoor fun.  

This is a full day out so allow 4/5 hours to really make the most of it.  Our restaurant will be serving seasonal recipes along with the usual cakes and treats – and for a great warm up, hot chocolate and marshmallows all round!

All Halloween events are included in the admission prices. Pre-booking on the website is essential. 

Please note that event is suited to a younger audience.

The Irish Racehorse Experience is not included in the admission price and a charge of €5.00 per person is required. The Irish Racehorse Experience is pre-book only and is suited to an older audience. Children aged 8-year-olds and over may take part in the Irish Racehorse Experience but must be accompanied by a paying adult.
