School Tours and Workshops, “Dive in and Explore at Galway Atlantaquaria”

Located on the Galway Promenade, the Aquarium in Galway has been delivering Educational Tours and Workshops for over 20 years and is an accredited member of BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums).

An important part of our mission, the aquarium staff is passionate about Ireland’s native species and their habitats. With a focus on Marine and Freshwater, we cover a range of topics from sustainability, litter, and materials, adaptations to life, coastal management and protection, engineering and flood defenses and clean water, and biodiversity and food production.

Experiences can range from one to four hours in length and can be carried out in the aquarium, in our classroom or audiovisual room, or on our local rocky shore.

Part of the SFI Curious Minds Programme Network, we offer workshops that can assist schools in achieving their Curious Minds Award. We also deliver a range of Marine Institute, Explorers Education Programme Modules for primary classes in Co. Galway and Clare. Workshops on marine litter and oceans which have been developed with the JCT are available to secondary school students, plus we deliver seashore and grassland ecology studies, and workshops on Animal Care and Marine Spatial Planning.

With all our education programs, we strive to inspire, engage and provide content that is accessible to all. We look forward to working with you and your students during 2023.

We are committed to providing affordable educational experiences for schools, and will not be raising prices for our school tours for the 2023 season. 

We are excited to announce our new 2023 TY School Residential package “Ballyhass Bunkhouses”.

After over 20 years of experience in the outdoor industry with school groups, we have designed a new custom-built ‘Bunkhouse Village” specifically designed for your Schools’ residential trip. This will be an outdoor experience like no where else.

We do a selection of overnight packages.

  • 1.5 day & one night – €130
  • Two day & one night – €160
  • Three day & two night – €245

Our bunkhouses sleep 4-6 students and there are teacher pods/wheelchair accessible pods available. 

All meals are fully catered for (except lunch on day 1, Bring your own lunch). Now that we have accommodation on site it means they get more adventure activities with us which we are really excited about. 

Our Bunkhouses are pod-style camping bunk bed accommodations, (bring your own sleeping bags, pillows etc).

What’s included in this package:

  • Over x25 different land, water and height activities to choose from.
  • Evening activities right up until bedtime (floodlit lake)!

Pony Rides:

Our friendly, safe ponies and experienced staff guide students in learning the basics of pony care, including grooming, tack and leading. The children go for a trek or ride the ponies in our enclosed sand arena, with leaders. Riding hats are provided and students should wear boots with heels, or wellingtons. For ages 4 and up only.

Enchanted Forest Fairy Tour:

A great day out for all ages, our staff lead the children on a fairy adventure!  Includes fairy face paint and dress up, a guided walk to the fairy forest, stories of the fairy folk and wishing tree tags and fairy dust for all students, fairy game, and paint your own fairy door to bring home.   Each child receives a Nature Journal to record what they spot along the way.

Farm Friends:

Discover life on the farm with arts and crafts, live animals to pet and groom, pony rides, games and a farm tour. It’s a full day outdoors! This programme cannot be combined with another option.

Natural Wonders:

Eco-Logic:

Discover what it means to “tread lightly on the earth”. Through interactive activities, students investigate the inter-connectedness of nature and the role of humans in the environment. Determine your own carbon footprint and bring awareness to action!

Teambuilding on Foot/Horseback:

Looking to bring a group of students together and build community? Our teambuilding program focuses on cooperation, communication and trust. Activities vary depending on the age and experience of the group and can include games, low ropes elements, and/or games on horseback!

Pony Trekking:

For groups of 25 or less and ages 8 and up, learn the basics of pony care and go riding through the forest for 35 minutes with a guide.

Orienteering (4th class and above):

Never get lost again! We teach the basic skills of map reading and compass use and students put those skills to the test with a team treasure hunt. For an additional challenge, find the hidden treasure on horseback!

We are delighted to introduce “Santa’s Magical Market”, the newest Santa experience in Ireland and right in the heart of Cork City. 

Nov 19th – Dec 23rd 2022

Santa’s Magical Market is brand new to the Marina Market, bigger and better than ever before. Walk through the magical woods and see how many of the animals you can spot. Next, visit the Reindeer in their stables as they rest before Christmas. See the Elves hard at work on Santas sleigh or head over to Santas post office and send your letter. Finally visit Mrs Claus bakery where you can pre-book your own treat. (Gluten free available too).

Each child will get an option of a present of course, and there is one free printed photo per booking included in the price. Before you ask, of course your dog is welcome and we cater for all ages and disabilities.

Ireland’s first-ever Santa Van launched five years ago and put an end to those long frustrating lines to see Santa in shopping centers. It’s a much better way to see Santa for the children than standing in a queue for two hours hence our slogan SKIP THE QUEUE AND GET SANTA TO COME TO YOU.

The Santa Van arrives festively decorated inside and out and aims to cater to everyone from creches, primary schools, youth clubs, street parties, and home visits subject to minimum numbers.

When the children get to see Santa each child is presented with a party bag with two toys and an official North Pole Certificate confirming they are on Santa’s good list. The taking of photos is also encouraged to remember The Santa Van experence

Parents are under a lot of stress with the run-up to Christmas so let The Santa Van remove all the pressure of organizing a Santa visit at the busiest time of the year. We have over two hundred five-star reviews on our Facebook & Instagram pages.
